Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! 

 

It is an honor to introduce myself as the principal of Keppen Elementary School and to join this extraordinary school community. My name is Tania Curtiss and I am eager to meet with and get to know all of you! My vision as a building principal is to create a safe, nurturing, and rigorous teaching and learning environment for all students. During the 22-23 school year I served as Hoover's Literacy Coach. Before joining the Railsplitters in 2021 I served as a general education teacher, ESL teacher, Reading Recovery teacher, Reading First Literacy Coach, Instructional Specialist, Master Teacher, and Literacy Coach throughout Detroit Public Schools. My husband, Jim, and I have one son, Jack, who will be a junior in high school this year. As a family, we enjoy traveling, boating, camping, and hanging out with our fur babies, Monroe and Bazzo. 

 

I wholeheartedly believe that great schools are a result of a strong home-school relationship. Working together with one another is crucial to the success of our students. My partnership with you starts today and I encourage you to become involved in any way you can. Excited is an understatement as I begin to plan for the upcoming school year! I believe that students are at the center of all school-related decisions and I am committed to providing a place of excellence for all students.
